Formaldehyde and CARB II Compliance Resources

Dear Clients and prospective Clients,

With the recent publicity on formaldehyde emissions from Laminate flooring generated by the very negative report aired last Sunday night on “60 minutes” which focused on products made in China that contained elevated levels of formaldehyde and failed to meet the minimum CARB standards to be legally sold in the state of California, I am obligated to assure you that All products which we currently market or plan to introduce are CARB compliant.

For over 30 years, Solana Flooring has always focused on bringing “High Quality” as opposed to “The Lowest Priced” products to our showroom while educating our clients on the high value attributes of our products. This includes adhering to the minimum emission standards of CA. and educating our sales team about those minimum standards.

We require all supplier partners to provide documentation of compliance before we agree to sell their product. To that extent, beyond this letter of assurance, if you wish to have additional information or specific product documentation you may request this from your sales rep.

Solana Flooring is committed to providing you with the information necessary to instill confidence and answer any questions our consumers may have about our products.

The purpose of the California Air Resources Board (CARB) • Starting January 1, 2009, California began regulating the formaldehyde emissions from composite wood products (particle board, MDF, HDF & hardwood plywood) sold in this state to make finished goods.

Hardwood Flooring Care and Maintenance

Hardwood flooring, like all surface materials, requires regular care and maintenance. Here are some tips
to help preserve the beauty of your wood floor:

Bona Hardwood Flooring Cleaner
Bona Hardwood Flooring Cleaner

1. Sweep or vacuum your floor. Do not use a vacuum with a beater bar.

2. Use an approved hardwood floor cleaner, such as Bona, on a regular basis. Using a non-

recommended cleaner can cause build-up and/or dull the finish. Contact a professional if you

have any questions regarding a cleaning product.

3. Do not wet mop your hardwood floor and be sure to clean up any liquid spills immediately.

4. Use rugs at all exterior doorways to prevent dirt and grit from being tracked onto the floor.

5. Keep pet’s nails trimmed.

6. Apply felt pads to the undersides of furniture.

7. Do not slide furniture across the floor.

8. Be aware that high heels can dent the floor; especially if the bottom of the heel is in need of

repair.

Your hardwood floor is a big investment. And with proper maintenance, you can be sure you will enjoy
the return on that investment for many years to come.

Maple Hardwood Refinishing in Solana Beach

Theresa was looking to clean up her beach front home with Maple Hardwood Refinishing in Solana Beach. She lives in Los Angeles so she was interested in using a local company to complete her project. We met with her to discuss her needs and of course to assess the furniture as her condo is right on the water in Solana Beach so we had limited space to work with. Maple Hardwood Refinishing in Solana Beach

Hickory Wood Flooring in Carmel Valley

Seen here are progress photos from a from a Hickory Wood Flooring installation we completed in Carmel Valley. This customer, who happens to live near the park in my neighborhood, selected Hickory Wood flooring after narrowing down there search from maple and walnut.

The first, third, and fourth photos show the areas where the client wanted to replace the original carpeting with hardwood. Here are some progress photos  in Carmel Valley near the park by my house. This is a photo of the original carpeting which the customer wanted to change to hardwood flooring.

The second photo shows our installers hard at work. Immediately, you can see a difference. The room has begun to feel cozier and more inviting. There is a stronger contrast between the green-gray tile of the fireplace and the reddish-brown of the flooring, enhancing the beauty of both.

In the third photo, one can see how the carpet did not serve as a nice backdrop for the lovely dining room furniture and rug. Also, the color of the walls seems to wash out.

The last photo shows the installation near completion. Here, the richness of the wood changes the feel and appearance of the room.  The character, color variation, and distressing of the wood add texture as well as much needed warmth. Carrying the flooring through to the kitchen has unified the two spaces, giving a sense of more space.
